E.M. Skinner Symphonic Organ - Hauptwerk Requirements

The MasterWorks E.M. Skinner virtual instrument (dry version) is quite versatile in its ability to perform well on systems ranging from average to state-of-the-art. The following list allows users to see which options may best suit their systems to get the most out of the instrument. Please note that all memory counts are done using Hauptwerk 3 and are general guidelines. Different systems may report slightly different memory usage.
All settings are applied to every rank and sound effect with every rank loading. Memory may be further reduced by disabling ranks from loading.
The memory amounts in each underlined heading below show the accessible RAM needed.
8 GB systems (Maximum needed)
Stereo - 24 bit (32 bit aligned) 48KHz - Uncompressed - Multiple Loops = 6.65 GB
4GB systems
Stereo - 16 bit 48KHz - Compressed - Multiple Loops = 3.79 GB (May need to load some ranks with modifications for OS overheads)
Mono - 24 bit (32 bit aligned) 48KHz - Uncompressed - Multiple Loops = 3.57 GB
3 GB systems (3 GB Switch = 2.7 GB)
Stereo - 16 bit 48KHz - Uncompressed - Single Loops = 2.1 GB
2 GB systems
Stereo - 16 bit 48KHz - Compressed - Single Loops = 1.69 GB
1.5 GB systems
Mono - 16 bit 48KHz - Compressed - Single Loops = 1.08 GB
Mono - 14 bit (16 bit aligned) 48KHz - Compressed - Single Loops = 933 MB

The E.M. Skinner wet sample set comes in stereo at 24
bit 48kHz
resolution with multiple loops for each sample. The entire library comes on two DVD-Roms. Using the
built in Hauptwerk 2 features users may load the
samples in 16 bit 48kHz and disable multiple loops to reduce memory requirements. Furthermore
Hauptwerk 2 includes lossless compression as well as the option to load samples in Mono. Using these
features combined will allow the entire E.M. Skinner organ to load into 1.1 GB of memory
(Mono, compressed, single loops, 16 bit). Loading samples in 16 bit stereo, uncompressed with single
loops allows the full organ to be loaded into 3.2 GB including Hauptwerk 2. To load the entire set in 24 bit 48kHz with all loops users will need 8GB of RAM installed and the set will load into about 7.3GB.
You MUST be running the Studio or Concert version (not the Evaluation version)
of Hauptwerk 2.10 or above to install the original E.M. Skinner wet version. Without a valid license the set will not be
playable.
Note that Hauptwerk 3 now allows samples to be loaded in 14 bit which will reduce memory requirements even further. However please note that this will cause degradation of audio quality. We recommend at least loading in 16 bit for better results. Loading in 20 and 24 bit will give noise free playback.
Loading in Mono reduces Stereo memory requirements by half.
*** Memory amounts may vary slightly on different systems. These are only general guidelines.

Licensing:
The MasterWorks version and Original Wet version of the E.M. SKinner
sample set
files are encrypted. You MUST be running the Basic or Advanced version (not the Evaluation version)
of Hauptwerk 3 or above to install the MasterWorks version and Hauptwerk 2.21 to install the original wet version. Without a valid license the set will not be
playable. By purchasing this set, you will receive a license update from Crumhorn Labs specific to
your dongle (USB key) to allow
functionality of the sample set. For further licensing information please see our licensing page
Computer Requirements:
To take full advantage of the
entire organ and Hauptwerk features we recommended using a PC or Macintosh computer with the following
system requirements or better. However lesser systems may still work adequately depending on the
options chosen in Hauptwerk.
Please note that the Hauptwerk Mac OS X port is now available from Crumhorn Labs.
This product will work fully on a Mac computer running Hauptwerk and was tested with the Mac and PC systems listed below.
Mac System
Mac Pro OS X v10.5 (Leopard) + Windows XP-64 running on Bootcamp
2x 3.0 gHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (Clovertown) Processors (8 cores)
16GB 667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC
500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7200-rpm hard drive
RME Fireface 800 + PreSonus FP-10 Firewire audio interfaces (48 kHz or higher audio device required)
ADS Tech Firewire PCIe card (400 mbps only. Using the onboard 400/800 Firewire card does not allow sync with the FP-10)
MOTU MIDI Express XT (MIDI Patchbay)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory
USB Port for Hauptwerk dongle license (USB key)
(2)16x double-layer SuperDrive for installation DVDs
6GB free hard drive space for DVD installation, another 4-8GB available for cached sample files
PC System
Windows XP 64 bit Edition (To use the dedicated 64 bit Hauptwerk application and access 4GB or more of
RAM)
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard
AMD Dual Core 64x2 4400 or 4800 processor OR the Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Please click HERE for a variey of performance benchmarks.
4 GB Corsair RAM (2 CMX2024 Sticks)
SATA HDD w/ 16 MB buffer (size of drive determined by users storage needs)
Audio Card supporting 48kHz audio
resolution - Currently E-MU products provide 64 bit Windows drivers with
ASIO support as well as PreSonus Audio Eletronics,
RME Audio and several others. ASIO is preferred over Direct Sound (WDM) for lower latency and superior audio. We tested Hauptwerk successfully with the
RME Fireface 800, the PreSonus FP-10, and E-MU 1820 all in ASIO mode.
MOTU MIDI Express XT (MIDI Patchbay)
USB Port for Hauptwerk
dongle license (USB key)
DVD-Rom drive for installation DVDs
6GB free hard drive space for DVD installation, another 4-8GB available for cached sample files
