Notre Dame de Metz - Hauptwerk Information

 About this Product:

This product includes the virtual instrument on 3 DVD-Roms featuring 10 GB of 24 bit 48kHz samples and organ definition files. Hauptwerk v.3 software is not included and must be purchased separately (may be purchased through our online shop.) Please note that this set will currently ONLY play with Hauptwerk v.3.

Every pipe of each stop was sampled with long samples. The Voix Humaine was sampled twice, once without tremulant and again with tremulant. All mechanical noises have also been sampled which may be disabled by the user if desired. The Notre Dame de Metz has acoustics of up to 5 seconds. The acoustical properties of the church have been carefully preserved in each sample and upon key release the pipe release will be triggered giving the authentic feeling of playing in the church. The virtual instrument samples contains multiple loops and multiple release samples (staccato, portamento and full releases) which may only be found in the Hauptwerk sampling engine (No other professional sampler contains these features!). While these require extra memory the results are breathtakingly realistic and surpass any other virtual organ sampler on the market today. Please listen to our Demos to hear for yourself!

  Hauptwerk Virtual Consoles:

Main Console Display
(Minimum Screen Resolution 1024x768)

Interact with the original Cavaillé-Coll console down to every last detail. Using this console will allow the user to become familiar with the methods used in building the French Symphonic organs. The use of foot couplers aided in the performance of large scale repertoire allowing the organist more freedom to add and subtract as needed without having the hands leave the keyboards. Particulary notable is the use of the "Combinaisons" which will add or remove the reeds and higher pitched ranks that are drawn. The ranks are labeled in red text which are to be used with the Combinaisons.
Each stop, key, pedal, expression pedal, and coupler is animated to move and come to life just like the original instrument. All sound effects have been recorded from each moving part and can be loaded for the ultimate in virtual reality performance. Blower noise is also included and automatically plays upon the organ being loaded.

Full Display
(Minimum Screen Resolution 1024x768)

For those using a single touch screen monitor this display page contains all controls in an easy to see and easy to use arrangement. Plenty of room has been given to facilitate rapid stop changes. There are also 20 General pistons found here which will capture your personal registrations to memory. All controls found here are interlinked between the other display pages, so users may use whichever virtual console they choose.

Left and Right Jamb Display
(Minimum Screen Resolution 1024x768)

The virtual organ makes full use of Hauptwerk v.3 and the multiple display page options (up to 4 pages may be displayed on different monitors). If users have dual touch screen monitors you may call up for the left jamb display to appear on one monitor while having the right jamb display appear on the other. Using these interfaces in this manner will add even more realism in the virtual performances and will seat you right at the original organ console. Please click Here to see the dual screen interface on the MasterWorks MIDI console.

Licensing:

The sample set is encrypted using the special Hauptwerk .hbw and .hbx file formatting and will not be accessible via any other hardware or software sample engine. Each user will receive a dongle license (USB key) update after purchase of this set. This set will not work with trial versions of Hauptwerk, users MUST own a licensed version of either the Basic or Advanced Editions of Hauptwerk. Using the Hauptwerk Advanced Edition, users have the ability to voice & balance the organ for their own listening environment. The sample set is not locked to the original organ definition file, therefore users may use the CODM provided with Hauptwerk. Please note that by doing so we cannot guarantee adequate results as this is effectively removing all included voicings, tremulant adjustments and user interface controls.

**We will not provide support for anyone working outside of the included ODF (organ definition file) for this set.**

Operating Systems:

Hauptwerk is available for both the Mac and PC. This virtual instrument will work properly on either operating system (OS X 10.4 or higher and Windows XP/Vista 32 and 64 bit). We have tested the virtual instrument on both Windows XP-64 and Apple Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Please consult the Crumhorn Labs website for more information about which operating system may be right for you.

Temperaments:

This virtual instrument allows using any temperament chosen within Hauptwerk. It comes with the original organ tuning leaving the samples at their original pitch as recorded during the sampling sessions (samples were not digitally corrected). The original tuning is A=435 Equal with the natural random tuning errors present. We have also included a temperament file keeping the organ at  A=435 and Equal temperament, however this does not maintain the original tuning and plays the organ back in a more finely tuned state eliminating the natural tuning errors. The organ file will add more random tuning deviations for any temperament chosen other than Original organ tuning, however these tuning errors may be entirely eliminated by using the Audio engine settings under General settings in Hauptwerk (Random pipe detuning adjustment and set to 0%).

Specification:

The organ contains 38 original ranks. Please click Here to view the specification.

Extended Version:

An extended version of this virtual instrument is available which augments the organ from 38 to 48 ranks. Seven additional ranks have been added to the Positif division, one extra rank to the Grand Orgue division and two 32' extensions to the Pédale division. During the introductory period we are offering the extra extended organ definition file and samples at no additional charge. After the introductory period is over an additional payment can be made to obtain this special file for download. Please click the link under the specification above to view the extended version.

The extended version contains the additional stops on the Full View page only. The Console, Left and Right display pages appear as they do in the original version.
